Die Krankheit kann aber auch in der fr\u00fchen Kindheit oder bis etwa zum 30. Lebensjahr beginnen. Ver\u00e4nderungen in der Form der Hornhaut treten normalerweise allm\u00e4hlich auf. Beim Keratokonus hat die Hornhaut eine andere Form und keine sch\u00f6ne Kugelform, sondern der Bulbus ist zusammengesunken und manchmal sogar kegelf\u00f6rmig. Die Ursache ist eine abnormale Struktur des Hornhautgewebes, wodurch es seine Festigkeit verliert. Dieser Zustand tritt normalerweise in beiden Augen auf, ist aber bei einem High am ausgepr\u00e4gtesten.
