The Keratoconus Center in the Netherlands has developed spectacle lenses especially for the correction of keratoconus that enable people with this condition to still wear spectacles. Until recently, only plus, minus and cylindrical lenses were available for the correction of keratoconus. These glasses are actually intended for the correction of nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. So now there are keratoconus lenses that we have developed that give a better result than regular lenses in more than 70% of the measurements.\n<\/p>\n
Many keratoconus patients have a strong desire to have glasses. Glasses offer them the option of not having to wear contact lenses for a while, for example in case of (temporary) intolerance of the contact lenses. Alternating contact lens wear with glasses can increase the comfort of the contact lenses. Wearing contact lenses for a shorter period of time also reduces the risk of complications.\n<\/p>\n
The keratoconus lenses developed by us have only been available since January 2020. A pilot study shows that glasses can be prescribed in 2\/3 of the measurements. The keratoconus lens not only improves vision, but above all improves the subjective evaluation of the amount of shadows and ghosts perceived. With keratoconus lenses there are new possibilities to correct the eyes of people with keratoconus.\n<\/p>\n
